The England international put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the Merseyside outfit on Friday evening after months of speculation surrounding his long-term future.
Flanagan made his return from a long-term injury lay-off earlier this year and the Liverpool youth product received praise for his performance in the Reds’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City.
Liverpool captain Henderson was under no illusion that Flanagan thoroughly merited a new Reds contract as he dedicated an Instagram post to the 23-year-old defender.
Henderson wrote on his Instagram page: “Well done mate! Thoroughly deserved! 👏🏻 @jonflan38”
Flanagan will be hoping to push Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno for a first-team place when the Reds make the trip to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool are in eighth place in the Premier League table and seven points behind fourth-placed City in the race to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League competition.
