Mesut Ozil was all smiles as he was presented with the German player of the year award ahead of his country’s 3-2 defeat by England in Saturday night’s friendly.

The Arsenal playmaker was voted the top German player back in January and received the award before kick-off of the friendly clash in Berlin.

Ozil played the full 90 minutes for Germany as they squandered a two-goal lead and England wrapped up victory thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Eric Dier.

The Gunners star will be expecting to feature for the north London club when they return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Watford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The north London side are currently third in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Leicester City, although Arsene Wenger’s men have played one game less than the Foxes.
