Ray Wilkins: This Chelsea star has been as bad as Eden Hazard

Ray Wilkins criticises Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic

Ray Wilkins appears to suggest Nemanja Matic has escaped a lot of criticism this season in light of Eden Hazard’s form.

The Chelsea duo were unable to inspire Guus Hiddink’s side to a FA Cup victory on Saturday after Romelu Lukaku’s brace sealed a 2-0 win for Everton in the quarter-final at Goodison Park.

The Blues crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night after a 2-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their last-16 clash.

Hazard was heavily criticised after he limped off in the second half of their PSG defeat following a subdued performance for the Premier League holders.

While Hazard has been heavily criticised this season, former Chelsea midfielder Wilkins believes Matic has been similarly disappointing for the west London side.

“Hazard hasn’t performed at all this season,” Wilkins said. “The surprising one is Matic.

“A lot of people speak about Hazard because he is a forward player and more industrious player.

“Matic was outstanding last season.”
