Rio Ferdinand heaped praise Arsenal’s resilience after Alexis Sanchez’s equaliser rescued a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners edged into a first half lead courtesy of Aaron Ramsey’s inventive close-range finish before Francis Coquelin received a second yellow card early in the second half.

Hopefully it will bode well for Arsenal in the coming games and they can build on this now

Toby Alderweireld levelled against 10-man Arsenal in the 60th minute before Harry Kane handed Tottenham a 2-1 lead two minutes later.

But Chile international Sanchez levelled with 14 minutes remaining to secure a valuable point for Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was impressed with Arsenal’s character to come from behind and rescue a point with 10 men.

“It was typical Premier League stuff – high intensity. It was a fair result,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“Arsenal will be the happier of the two teams after going down to ten men and getting back into the game from 2-1 down.

“It showed a lot of resilience and character. Hopefully it will bode well for Arsenal in the coming games and they can build on this now.”

Arsenal are three points behind Tottenham and five points adrift of leaders Leicester City.

Claudio Ranieri’s side face Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League in Saturday’s late kick-off.
