Ryan Giggs believes that Manchester United will have a good chance of finishing in the Premier League’s top four this season if they beat local rivals Manchester City this weekend.

The Red Devils are preparing to take on the Citizens at Ethiad Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they look to close the gap to their neighbours in the Premier League table.

City are currently in fourth place in the top-flight table with United back in sixth, but the Red Devils can close the gap down to just one point with victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s men on Sunday afternoon.

And Giggs feels that Sunday’s clash could end up being make or break for United in their pursuit of qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking to United’s website, assistant manager Giggs said: “If we win [on Sunday], then we have a great chance of reaching that top four. If we don’t, then it will be very difficult for us.

“Again, it’s a challenge. You’re going to your neighbours, you’re going to your local rivals. You’re a good team and you’re trying to win and trying to get further up the table.

“If I was playing, I’d be looking forward to this week. Two brilliant games – Liverpool at home and then City away. It’s a brilliant week to look forward to.”
