Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an injury blow after Nabil Bentaleb underwent an operation ahead of their next Premier League game at Anfield later this month.

The Algeria international has gone under the knife to fix a problem in his left knee which will keep the defensive midfielder sidelined for six weeks.

Bentaleb has made just five Premier League appearances for the north London side this season after falling down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

The north London club revealed the injury blow via their Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon ahead of their game against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday 2 April.

The 21-year-old was a first-team regular during Mauricio Pochettino’s first season in charge at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind Leicester City.
