Gerry Francis has admitted that he doubts Tottenham will be able to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit when they host Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The north London side are preparing to welcome the Bundesliga outfit to White Hart Lane after their comprehensive 3-0 loss to the German side last week.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection is likely to be a source of debate in the build-up to the game, with Spurs clearly set to have one eye on their Premier League clash against Bournemouth this weekend.

Spurs are currently second in the table and five points behind leaders Leicester City as the Premier League title race hots up.

And former Tottenham boss Francis feels that Pochettino could opt to field a weakened team against Dortmund as Spurs turn their attentions back to the Premier League this weekend.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday morning, Francis said: “I think it depends on whether Pochettino thinks they have a chance of turning this around. I think he will play a strong side.

“Personally, having seen Dortmund a fair bit, I cannot see them scoring four goals and Dortmund not scoring so I think they will struggle, and obviously his other eye will be on the Bournemouth game because it’s Tottenham’s greatest chance to win the title.

“When you are 3-0 down against a top side from the Bundesliga, it is going to be a big ask. I guess it depends on who he feels he can take a chance with.”
