Don’t be unrealistic

It is hard to follow a completely plant-based diet overnight so make small changes incrementally such as swapping a meal or substituting an animal product for a vegan alternative and progress from there.

Find a support network

Building up a network of people who support you in your vegan endeavours will make the adjustment much easier. Look into local vegan societies.

Don’t worry about the protein (or vitamin B12)

These nutrients can be met quite comfortably as long as you are eating a well-balanced vegan diet that includes a wide variety of fruit, vegetables, beans, grains and so forth.

Use the substitutes

In the supermarkets, there is a vegan substitute for almost everything, so if you are a dairy lover, find the alternatives for this. Or if you are a chocoholic, you will find tasty alternatives by looking in the vegan aisle.

Don’t beat yourself up

In the initial beginner stages, there’s a chance you will slip up, especially if you eat out frequently. Finding out later that you have eaten an animal product by mistake is not the end of the world, just focus on the end goal and learn from this. Do not give up at the first hurdle.
