Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is worried about Manchester United under the management of Jose Mourinho as a Liverpool supporter.
The 53-year-old was named as United’s new manager on Friday morning after having been linked with the role regularly over the past six months.
His predecessor Louis van Gaal struggled to restore the Red Devils to their former glory during his two-year reign, although the 20-time English champions did win the FA Cup at Wembley last weekend.
However, former Liverpool defender Carrahger is worried about the prospect of United and their potential to improve under Mourinho.
“Mourinho arrives at Old Trafford with a point to prove and, as a Liverpool supporter, it worries me! It should also worry the rest of the Premier League — he is coming back to win,” Carragher told Daily Mail.
Mourinho is the third manager to take charge of United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table and behind Manchester City on goal difference.
Jesse Lingard scored an extra-time winner as United came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the home of English football.
