Arsenal finally unveiled Xhaka as their first signing of the summer transfer window last week after plenty of speculation linking him with the north London club.
Xhaka, 23, has played alongside former Arsenal defender Djourou for the Swiss national team.
And the centre-half has revealed that he is a keen admirer of the Switzerland international, who signed a long-term contract with the Gunners for an undisclosed fee last week.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Djourou said: “He’s a great ball player and a ball winner so I think in the midfield he could help a lot.
“He’s got the ability to play very long balls and precise balls. He reminds me a bit of Pirlo, the way he plays.”
Attentions will now inevitably turn back to the summer transfer window and Arsene Wenger’s plans to further strengthen his squad before next season.
The Gunners are believed to be on the lookout for a number of reinforcements as Wenger looks to build a team capable of winning the Premier League next term after their second-placed finish behind Leicester this season.
