Paul Scholes is tipping Jose Mourinho to get his Manchester United side playing entertaining football as the Portuguese coach edges closer towards being appointed as the club’s new manager.

The former Chelsea boss is widely expected to be named as the Red Devils’ new boss in the next 48 hours after United parted ways with Louis van Gaal on Monday.

Mourinho’s future has been a constant source of speculation since his sacking by Chelsea back in December but it now appears that he is set for an immediate return to the Premier League.

And former United midfielder Scholes is backing Mourinho to be a success at Old Trafford should be secure the job as expected.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Scholes said: “The fans at Man United demand entertaining football, and I’m sure Mourinho will come and try and give it.

“I think we’ve seen [over] the last two years, did Van Gaal really get the ethos of the club?

“I think Mourinho will have watched that closely and will have seen what happened. He’s a top manager, he’s proven that before and hopefully he can do that again.”
