The Red Devils announced Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor after months of speculation linking the 20-time English champions with a move for the 53-year-old.
Mourinho led Chelsea to Premier League title glory and the League Cup during his second reign in charge of the Red Devils before he was sacked in December.
The Portuguese coach has won top-flight titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain as well as the Champions League twice with Porto and Inter Milan.
Former United defender Neville welcomed Mourinho’s appointment as the former Chelsea manager looks to secure the Red Devils’s first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
“What Jose brings is success. Nothing is guaranteed in life but everywhere he’s gone he’s brought success,” said Neville, speaking exclusively to Carlsberg.
“I don’t see how that would change now. He’s a great appointment and United have now got the best manager in the world. He won’t be scared of managing at Old Trafford where there is a big expectation to win trophies. He will do that.”
Louis van Gaal ended United’s three-year trophy drought last weekend after the Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
Phil Neville met England fans at The Three Lions pub in Manchester as part of Carlsberg’s ‘Pubstitutions’ campaign. Read the full interview with Phil Neville here including his thoughts on how Rashford can have the same impact this summer as Owen in ’98
