Stan Collymore makes bold claim about Gary Neville and Manchester United

Stan Collymore believes Jose Mourinho could turn to Gary Neville as one of his Manchester United assistants ahead of Ryan Giggs.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move to appoint Mourinho as their next manager after Louis van Gaal was sacked by the 20-time English champions on Monday night just days after their FA Cup success.

Giggs was working as Van Gaal’s assistant during the Dutchman’s two-year tenure at Old Trafford, while the Welshman was also a part of David Moyes’s doomed set-up at United.

However, former Liverpool striker Collymore is tipping Mourinho to turn to ex-Valencia manager and current England coach Neville to help restore United to the pinnacle of Premier League football.

“Mourinho likes him, respected his move to a tough Valencia job and feels he has way more credibility with United fans than the romantic option of Ryan Giggs,” Collymore told BoyleSports.

“Do I believe Giggs will be embraced by Jose though? Of course he will but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Jose calmly cajoles Giggs to go out and ‘find his own way’ while bringing in Neville in some capacity to United.”

Collymore added: “I personally think that would be tremendously exciting for United, a club legend, already in the thick of a coaching experience with England, angry and hungry to prove the doubters wrong who’ve suggested he’s great with giant TVs but not with real players.”

Van Gaal ended United’s three-year trophy drought thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
