The summer signing continued at centre-half alongside Netherlands international Daley Blind as United racked up successive Premier League victories.
He is a real Jose Mourinho defender
Bailly was named the man of the match in the Reds’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener at Vitality Stadium last weekend.
The 22-year-old was the first of Mourinho’s summer signings after the African defender completed a £30m move to Old Trafford from La Liga side Villarreal at the start of June.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher lavished praise on Mourinho’s defensive signing after Bailly’s composed performance against the Saints on Friday night.
“Out of the games we’ve had this season, he was man of the match in his first two games,” Carragher told Sky Sports after United’s 2-0 victory over Southampton.
“He didn’t have too much to do. He got a caught out a couple of time. He is a player you wouldn’t want to come up against.
“He is a real Jose Mourinho defender. Eric Bailly looks good on the ball when he is in possession, his first thing is defend.
“He looks like a great acquisition at the moment.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock with a powerful header which beat Southampton shot stopper Fraser Forster in the 34th minute.
The former AC Milan and Juventus striker doubled the home side’s lead with a successful conversion from the penalty spot after the half-time break.
United make the trip to Hull City in their next Premier League.
