Paul Parker has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson would have treated Bastian Schweinsteiger very differently than current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The Germany international has been sent to train with United’s Under-21 side and has already been ordered to clear his dressing room locker after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal’s replacement.

Schweinsteiger, who was part of Joachim Low’s side that reached the European championship semi-finals, has still shown his support for his United team-mates with a series of social media posts.

However, the 32-year-old’s future remains unresolved as the summer transfer window comes to a close just 12 months after Schweinsteiger called time on his decorated Bayern Munich career to move to Old Trafford.

Former United defender Parker believes the club’s most-successful manager Ferguson would be treating Schweinsteiger with more dignity and respect even if the Scot had decided to sell the German legend.

“There is no way Sir Alex would treat someone like Schweinsteiger is being treated. He would be told he can leave but treated with respect and still involved in training as long as he had the right professional attitude,” said Parker, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

“Mourinho never gave Schweinsteiger the opportunity to be professional about the situation. He just said ‘You’re not in my plans so you train with the kids’. That’s great for the kids but even they will be wondering why this World Cup winner is training with them.”

Parker added: “You would have to say something against him or be derogatory towards Manchester United for Sir Alex to ever treat someone badly. The records show it. Then you leave very quickly like with Jaap Stam.”

Schweinsteiger scored his only United goal so far in a 1-1 draw with champions Leicester City at King Power Stadium last season.
