Ryan Giggs has likened Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to club legend Eric Cantona.

The 34-year-old striker has made a whirlwind start to his Red Devils career after having scored an impressive four times in three competitive games for United so far.

Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock in Friday night’s 2-0 win against Southampton with a powerful header after rising above Jose Fonte and guiding a finish past Fraser Forster.

The former AC Milan and Inter Milan striker doubled the home side’s lead with a composed finish from the penalty spot to take his tally to three Premier League goals since his summer transfer.

Ibrahimovic moved to United on a free transfer from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain after winning four successive French titles at Parc des Princes.

Former United midfielder Giggs, who won 13 Premier League crowns during a decorated career, can see similarities between Ibrahimovic and the club’s famous number seven Cantona.

“Eric was a brilliant professional and I hear Ibrahimovic is the same,” Giggs told Sky Sports after Friday night’s win.

“Ibra doesn’t play at the top for this amount of time without being a professional. Without doing it right.

“You can see him laughing with Pogba and it shows the team spirit is there. He might be the one to provide the goals [to win the title].”
