Gary Neville has claimed that Liverpool are “shoddy” at defending from set-pieces this season.

The Reds have earned plenty of praise for their performances for under Jurgen Klopp this term, with Liverpool having already secured victories over the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City this term.

Liverpool were kept at bay by a stubborn Manchester United side at Anfield on Monday night as Jose Mourinho set up his team to contain the Reds’ attacking threat on Merseyside.

However, despite keeping a clean sheet on Monday, former Manchester United defender Neville has not been at all impressed by Liverpool’s defending from set-pieces this term, pointing it out as a key area that could dent their Premier League title hopes.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Monday’s game at Anfield, Neville said: “Where Liverpool are shoddy is defending set-pieces. They really are poor defensively and have been over the last two or three seasons.

“It cost them the league three seasons ago. If they defend like they have done at times, they’ll struggle to win it [the title] this season.”
