Gianluca Vialli believes that Liverpool look more like title contenders than Manchester United heading into Monday night’s crunch clash at Anfield.

The Reds head into the game in fine form and having come from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win at Swansea City before the international break.

Liverpool have already beaten the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Leicester City in the Premier League so far this season in what is Jurgen Klopp’s first full campaign in charge at Anfield.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have made a stuttering start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho and head into Monday night’s showdown on the back of their disappointing 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the international break.

The Red Devils are currently three points behind Klopp’s side in the Premier League table.

And former Chelsea star Vialli feels that Liverpool have shown some of the makings of Premier League title contenders in the opening seven games of the season.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Saturday, Vialli said: “It’s a turning point of the season for both clubs I think. Liverpool wants to fight for the title and Manchester United, so far, have been a bit questionable so they want to be part of that elite clubs playing for the title.

“At the moment Liverpool [are the most likely title contender between United and Liverpool]. If they can sustain this consistency and understand when they need to push up and when to sit, I think they have more options up front.

“To me they know better what to do on the pitch. Jose Mourinho is still working with Man Utd players to create a reliable system and to find the right players for the right positions in the squad.”
