The north London side earned plenty of praise last term for their free-flowing attacking displays as they became the main team to challenge Leicester City in the race for the title.
The Lilywhites ended up being pipped to a second-placed finish by Arsenal on the final day of the campaign but still secured a route into the Champions League thanks to their third-placed finish.
Spurs have started the season strongly and are currently third in the table and just a point behind leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal after eight games.
And former Liverpool star Souness is certain that Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be able to challenge for the top-flight title this term.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Souness said: “The mix of age group they have can only get a lot better. I still see them as being a real threat to win the league this year.
“I think they’ve got a really healthy group.”
Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.
