David De Gea is confident that Manchester United can beat Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday night, but admits that he is wary of the threat posed by Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the international break.

Liverpool have earned plenty of praise for their performances under Jurgen Klopp this season and have already beaten the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City this term.

United have made something of a stuttering start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho, with the Red Devils currently three points behind Liverpool in the table.

However, United shot-stopper De Gea feels that the Red Devils have what it takes to beat Liverpool in front of their home fans on Monday night.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, De Gea said: “It’s always a special game for everyone, for the fans, for the players, for the clubs. In Liverpool it’s a great feeling to play there and try to beat them.

“Hopefully we can win on Monday, it’s a difficult game, they are a good team with good players and press high, so it’s going to be tough.”

He added: “I’ve had many good times, maybe the 3-0 at home and the 2-1 at Anfield when Juan Mata scored that overhead kick. Great moments. If you win at Anfield with your fans shouting for you it’s amazing and hopefully we can do that on Monday.”
