The Reds skipper has made a bright start to the 2016-17 season despite being played in a deeper role in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up.
Henderson scored his first Premier League goal of the campaign at Stamford Bridge with a long-range strike to help seal a 2-1 win against Chelsea.
Matip, meanwhile, has been impressive in Klopp’s back four after the Cameroon defender moved to Liverpool from Bundesliga side Schalke in the summer.
And the African centre-half lifted the lid on his first conversation with the Liverpool captain following his move in summer transfer window.
“He’s the leader. From the first day he came up to me and [asked] if I needed something. He’s a great player on the field but also off the field,” the Cameroonian defender told Liverpool’s website.
“You always want to keep the team together because you know as a team you can achieve something. He is a great person and a great player.”
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal.
The Reds are three points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s side after a run of four successive Premier League victories.
The 20-time English champions are in seventh place after having collected just four points from a possible 12.
