Paul Merson says he has been impressed with Arsenal’s ability to beat Premier League teams even when Arsene Wenger’s side aren’t playing well.

The Gunners lost 4-3 to top-four rivals Liverpool in their opening Premier League game of the season at the Emirates Stadium in August.

The north London side extended their winless start to two games after a goalless draw with reigning champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

However, Wenger’s side have won their last five Premier League games, including an outstanding 3-0 victory over title rivals Chelsea in north London last month.

Arsenal have also managed to secure unconvincing victories over Burnley and Southampton despite poor performances to keep their title bid on track.

Former Gunners playmaker Merson has been impressed with how Arsenal have managed to secure three points even when struggling to find their stride in games.

“What has impressed me with Arsenal is they weren’t great against Southampton and Burnley, but they won both matches. In previous years they would have probably dropped points,” Merson told Sky Sports.
