Jamie Carragher angrily reacts to Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Southampton on Twitter

The former Liverpool defender delivers his verdict on their 1-0 defeat at Southampton in the League Cup

Jamie Carragher was left frustrated on Twitter after Liverpool produced a disappointing performance in a 1-0 loss at Southampton in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius made his second successive start since being dropped following the Reds’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United in December.

While the German shot stopper kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw with League Two side Plymouth Argyle at Anfield on Sunday, Karius was powerless to prevent Southampton from making the breakthrough despite a number of saves early on.

Liverpool put the Southampton goal under pressure in the second half as Philippe Coutinho came off the bench to make his first start since injuring his ankle in a 2-0 win against Sunderland at November but couldn’t produce an equaliser.

Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 20 games in the 2016-17 season so far.

The Reds will make the trip to their bitter rivals Manchester United in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
