Jamie Carragher praised Loris Karius’s performance for keeping Liverpool in their EFL Cup semi-final clash after a 1-0 loss at Southampton in the first leg at St Mary’s.

The summer signing was restored to the Liverpool line-up for their goalless draw with League Two side Plymouth Argyle at Anfield after he was dropped from Klopp’s Premier League line-up in favour of Simon Mignolet.

Karius retained his starting spot for the League Cup clash and the German goalkeeper was busy in the first half after he pulled off two close-range saves to keep the first leg scoreless.

However, Nathan Redmond made the breakthrough after the midfielder raced onto Jay Rodriguez’s through pass at St Mary’s.

While Carragher has been critical of Klopp’s summer signing in recent months, the former Liverpool defender praised the goalkeeper’s performance in the League Cup semi-final.
