Jamie Carragher singled out Harry Maguire for special praise despite Hull City’s 2-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup.

The Red Devils hosted the Tigers in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final just days after Jose Mourinho’s side eased to a commanding 4-0 win against Reading in the FA Cup third round at Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United struggled to make the breakthrough in the first half in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after Mourinho opted to start with Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford up front.

Juan Mata finally made the breakthrough in the second half after the Spain international managed to get on the end of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s flick-on at the far post.

Hull looked to be heading for a credible 1-0 defeat ahead of the second leg at KCOM Stadium later this month but substitute Marouane Fellaini doubled the lead in the 87th minute.

While Carragher felt that the Belgium international’s goal left Hull with little hope ahead of the second leg, the Liverpool legend was impressed with Maguire’s performance in the visitors’s defence.
