Joe Gomez says it meant a lot to pull on the Liverpool shirt at Anfield again after the defender made his first competitive start in over 12 months as Jurgen Klopp’s side drew 0-0 with Plymouth in the FA Cup third round.

The 19-year-old made his first appearance under Jurgen Klopp after the versatile defender suffered a serious knee injury just days after the German replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager at Anfield.

Gomez picked up the knee injury while on England Under-21 duty in October 2015 and the full-back’s return was hampered by a setback in the summer.

However, the defender, who can play at centre-half, left-back and right-back, was one of Liverpool’s best players during an otherwise disappointing goalless draw with League Two side Plymouth in the FA Cup third round at Anfield.

Gomez posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption following his long-awaited return to the Liverpool side:

“Not the result we wanted today, but we’ll bounce back. Meant a lot for me to be back playing at anfield… thank you all for your incredible support #LFC❤️”
