Rio Ferdinand hailed Chelsea’s professional performance in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Merseyside outfit were looking to end a three-game losing run in all competitions after back-to-backs defeats by Swansea City, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool made a disappointing start to the Premier League clash after Brazil international David Luiz guided a free-kick past Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the first half.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s showed their mettle with a strong second-half performance after Georginio Wijnaldum managed to head home from close range from James Milner’s cross.

The Premier League leaders had a chance to secure three points when Joel Matip brought down Diego Costa but the Spain international missed his ensuing spot-kick at Anfield.

Speaking to BT Sport after Liverpool’s 1-1 stalemate with leaders Chelsea, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand delivered his verdict on the performance of the away side.

“Against the big teams they [Liverpool] seem to turn up and put the performances in,” Ferdinand said.

“Their record against the big teams has been good this season. But that was a very professional performance from this Chelsea team. Saying that, there were a couple of chances that Firmino had, if he put them away it would have been a different game.”
