Wayne Rooney dedicates a message to Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli

Wayne Rooney has sent a message of congratulations to Harry Kane following the birth of the Tottenham Hotspur striker’s daughter, while the Manchester United captain laid down a challenge to Dele Alli.

The England centre-forward was absent for Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round at White Hart Lane after his wife Kate gave birth to their daughter Ivy in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Alli, on the other hand, was a second-half substitute as goals from Ben Davies and Son Heung-min helped Tottenham book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup in north London.

Rooney has enjoyed a special weekend of his own after the 30-year-old equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United record with his 249th Red Devils goal in a 4-0 victory over Reading on Saturday afternoon.

Showing his leadership skills on social media, Rooney sent a message to Kane following his England colleague becoming a father for the first time.
