The Manchester United playmaker is currently getting used to life at Old Trafford after arriving at the Premier League club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Mkhitaryan has been in impressive form for the Red Devils in recent weeks after something of a slow start to his career at Manchester United.
Mkhitaryan is known as ‘Micki’ amongst his team-mates, and the playmaker has revealed just how that nickname first came about.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Mkhitaryan said: “When I came first to Dortmund Jurgen Klopp said, ‘Listen, Mkhitaryan, it’s your family name, it’s too long.
“So Henrikh, it’s too long. Let’s call you Micki.
“Are you OK?’ I said, ‘OK, no problem.’
“And since that day they started calling me Micki.”
Manchester United will look to win their first major trophy of the season later this month when they take on Southampton in the EFL Cup final.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table as they bid to break back into the top four under Jose Mourinho this term following their fifth-placed finish last season.
