The Reds have endured a stuttering start to 2017 and have fallen way off the pace in the race for the Premier League title.
Indeed, Liverpool are yet to win a Premier League game since New Year’s Eve and currently trail leaders Chelsea by a staggering 13 points.
There had been much optimism around Anfield in the opening months of the season, but Liverpool’s focus has now turned from the title to securing a top-four finish.
And former Liverpool star Aldridge feels that the Reds are badly missing a proven goal-scorer in their squad as they bid to get back into the title race this season.
Writing in his column for The Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said: “We need an out-and-out goal-scorer.
“Look across the Park at Romelu Lukaku. He doesn’t give you a lot outside the penalty box but hey he’s scored 16 goals. That’s exactly what we need.
“When we had four players all scoring it was great but you need your match-winner up front.
“I think we’ve got to find one. Daniel Sturridge is not going to do it because the manager is not playing him. We need to unearth a 20-goal-a-season man.
“Tottenham have got Harry Kane. He’s been through a lean spell but has come through it with flying colours and that shows his strong mental attitude to prove people wrong.”
Liverpool return to action this weekend with a crunch clash against Tottenham at Anfield.
