Michael Ballack believes that Chelsea took a big step towards winning the Premier League title on Tuesday night when they drew 1-1 at Liverpool.

The Blues took the lead in the 21st minute at Anfield when David Luiz’s dipping free-kick caught out Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

However, Liverpool fought their way back into the game after the break and Georginio Wijnaldum headed home an equaliser in the 57th minute.

Diego Costa then missed a penalty late on as both sides were forced to settle for a point on Merseyside.

The result left Chelsea nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table heading into Saturday’s clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

And former Blues star Ballack was very impressed by what he saw from the west London side on Tuesday night.

Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, Ballack said: “It’s a huge step for Chelsea today. They did what they had to do.

“It was a good game, not a great game. There were too many technical mistakes from both sides but Chelsea did their job and the draw is enough for them in this moment.

“That’s how you win titles.”
