Pat Nevin has claimed that Cesc Fabregas is playing some of the best football of his career under Antonio Conte this season – despite his lack of playing time.

The Spanish midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Chelsea team this season following Conte’s appointment at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Indeed, Fabregas has been limited to just five Premier League starts this season and 10 appearances from the bench.

The former Arsenal captain came off the bench to scored Chelsea’s third goal in their impressive 3-1 win over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

And despite his lack of playing time this season with the Blues, former Chelsea star Nevin feels that Fabregas is currently at the peak of his power.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “The back-up is phenomenal. Indeed it is almost offensive to call the likes of Cesc, Willian, Pedro and John Terry back-up players when they don’t start.

“Cesc is playing some of the best football he has ever played but can’t get a start every week.”
