Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to ease to a comfortable win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday evening.

The Blues were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend after Robbie Brady cancelled out Pedro Rodriguez’s opener.

Chelsea were 4-0 winners against Championship side Brentford in the previous round last month but now face their first FA Cup clash on the road in the current campaign.

Wolves have already secured one giant killing this season after Paul Lambert’s side were surprise 2-1 winners against Liverpool at Anfield in the fourth round.

The west London side haven’t won the FA Cup since a 2-1 win against Liverpool at Wembley in 2012.

Writing in his Sky Sports column ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Wolves at Molineaux on Saturday evening, Merson said:

“Wolves were playing well a few weeks ago, but have had a sticky patch lately, losing games against struggling Wigan and Burton.

“It’s a nice big pitch at Molineux and Chelsea don’t have any European games, so they can focus on winning the Premier League and the FA Cup. I can’t see anything but a comfortable Chelsea win here.”

Chelsea are eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table.
