Rio Ferdinand believes that Chelsea have established themselves as the firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season thanks to their ability to grind out results even when not playing well.

The Blues earned a valuable point in the race for the Premier League title on Tuesday night when they played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

That result left the west London side nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table heading into their crunch clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.

Chelsea’s fine form under Antonio Conte this season has inevitably led to them being the firm favourites to win the title this term.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has outlined just why he thinks Chelsea are the favourites to lift the main trophy in May.

Speaking to BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said: “Chelsea have thrown the gauntlet down to other teams and said, ‘are you good enough to catch us?’.

“To win the league you’ve got to be consistent, week in, week out and grind results out.

“Chelsea are doing that better than anybody else.”
