Wayne Rooney has described Jose Mourinho as a natural born winner following his appointment as Manchester United’s new manager in the summer.

The Portuguese coach is currently getting to grips with life at Old Trafford following his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor last year.

It has been something of a mixed start for the new Manchester United boss, with the Red Devils currently languishing in sixth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Rooney has been in and out of the Manchester United team this season and has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Red Devils team.

Nonetheless, the Manchester United captain has been full of praise for the new man in charge at Old Trafford.

Speaking in an interview with GQ magazine, Rooney said: “He’s obviously a top manager – I think his record at all the clubs he’s been at shows that,

“I think he knows what he wants from the players, and the players know what the manager wants from them.

“He’s strong in that sense but as long as you’re doing what he wants, then I’m sure you’ll be fine.

“I think you can see he has got a winning mentality – not that we didn’t have that already, but he’s certainly reminded us of that.”

Rooney will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils host Watford on Saturday.
