The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of quality players in the coming weeks and months as the transfer window draws ever nearer.
Jose Mourinho is likely to have already been thinking about which stars he would like to bring to Old Trafford to bolster his squad ahead of his second season in charge.
Marcus Rashford has been in good form for the Red Devils when called upon in recent games.
But former England international Shearer feels that Mourinho is likely to bring in fresh competition for the striker in the coming months.
Speaking on BBC Sport’s Match of the Day 2, Shearer said: “I think he [Marcus Rashford] has got a big future in the game but he needs to be patient.
“I think Mourinho will sign one if not two big hitters at centre-forward or number 10 in the summer.
“Which in turn might mean that he [Rashford] will have to play on the left, which I don’t think is his best position.
“He’s very good at it because of this pace but he’s only 19.
“He’s going to learn, he’s at the right club, he’s learning from Ibrahimovic and whoever he brings in the summer – he’ll learn from them too.”
Manchester United were 3-1 winners over Middlesbrough on Sunday to move them up into sixth place in the Premier League table as they chase a top-four finish.
