Antonio Conte has moved to play down fears about Eden Hazard’s fitness levels after the Belgian sat out Chelsea’s trip to Stoke on Saturday.

The playmaker did not travel to the Britannia Stadium as captain John Terry also missed out with a minor problem.

However, the Chelsea manager moved to play down the seriousness of the problem ahead of the Blues’ clash with the Potters on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to BBC Sport before the game at the Britannia Stadium, Conte said: “During the press conference I spoke about two situations that I have to check and both Eden and John they have little problems but I preferd not to risk them in this game for that reason.”

Hazard has been one of Chelsea’s standout players this season and his performances have been much improved following Conte’s arrival at the club last summer.

The Belgian, like many of his team-mates, struggled to produce consistent displays last term as Chelsea ended up 10th in the Premier League table and without a trophy.

However, the 26-year-old has this season shown the sort of form which earned him the PFA player of the year award in 2014-15.
