Gary Neville has admitted that he was very surprised by the way Liverpool defended so well against Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

After a goalless first half, Liverpool took the lead thanks to James Milner’s penalty at The Etihad, but the Reds were forced to settle for a point when Sergio Aguero netted an equaliser for the hosts.

Liverpool’s defence has been questioned many times this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having conceded 36 goals this term, which is more than any team in the top seven.

However, former Manchester United defender Neville admits that he was very surprised by the way in which Liverpool were able to nullify Manchester City’s attacking threats on Sunday at The Etihad.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Neville said: “I think Liverpool defended pretty well against some pretty good play.

“ane’s a very good player, Sterling will cause you problems, De Bruyne and Silva are probably two of the best players you’ll see in the league but I thought Liverpool, who are suspect defensively, did a pretty good job and managed the threat well.

“It was an intriguing game, could have gone either way, but I’m not sure either team can really say they deserved to win it.”
