The Red Devils managed to do Tottenham a favour on Sunday afternoon after Manchester United were 2-0 winners against bitter rivals Chelsea.
Spurs moved to within four points of the leaders in the weekend’s first Premier League following a 4-0 win against Bournemouth at White Hart Lane.
Chelsea failed to restore their seven-point cushion after goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera sealed three points for the Red Devils.
Antonio Conte’s side will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Southampton next Tuesday before Spurs make the short trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday 26 April.
Speaking to Monday Night Football about the Premier League title race, former Liverpool defender Carragher said:
“You would still have to fancy Chelsea with the run-in that they’ve got. Four points is not a big lead, but could they turn that to two? Four points is still two games.
“Chelsea can still afford to drop points in a game and are still in front. If you can get it to three points or below – where every single game is going to make a difference – that’s when you can see real pressure get put on Chelsea.
“But let’s not forget last season when Tottenham were getting closer to Leicester and they dropped off. There will be more pressure on them, the closer they get to Chelsea also.”
Chelsea are looking to win a second Premier League title in three seasons under Mourinho.
The Blues will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
