Jose Mourinho has subtly told Henrikh Mkhitaryan that it is time for him to step up his performances for Manchester United in the Premier League.

The Armenia international has been in improved form for the Red Devils in recent months after initially struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford following his transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Mkhitaryan has scored four goals and made one assist in 18 Premier League games for Manchester United so far this season.

And Mourinho clearly wants to see the playmaker improve his performances in the top flight in the remaining games of the season, if his comments before Thursday’s clash with Anderlecht are anything to go by.

Asked to assess Mkhitaryan’s performances this season, Mourinho told his pre-match news conference: “Good, in the Europa League.”

The Portuguese coach then repeated: “In the Europa League.”
