The Manchester United striker was handed a starting spot ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the visit of Chelsea on Sunday despite the 35-year-old’s goal record.
Rashford, who ended a long goal drought in the Premier League at Sunderland last weekend, broke the deadlock in the ninth minute to help Manchester United to victory.
The 19-year-old raced onto Ander Herrera’s through pass before the Manchester United striker slotted a finish past Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
The England international was close to extending Manchester United’s lead but Rashford fired narrowly wide after escaping David Luiz’s attentions again.
Writing in his BBC Sport column about Rashford’s performance against Luiz, former Tottenham legend Crooks said:
“This lad absolutely ran Chelsea ragged. I have not seen a single player this season give David Luiz and the entire Chelsea defence such a run-around.”
He added: “To see this young man look so comfortable on one of the biggest stages in the world was one thing, but to see the United centre-forward destroy a world-class centre-back was something entirely different.”
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Rashford scored eight times in 18 appearances in the 2015-16 Premier League season.
