The Red Devils striker was handed a starting spot ahead of the club’s top goal-scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the visit of the Premier League leaders.
Rashford ended his Premier League goal drought with a late goal in a 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Sunderland at the Stadium of Light earlier this month.
Jose Mourinho was rewarded for starting the 19-year-old ahead of Ibrahimovic after the centre-forward broke the deadlock in the ninth minute at Old Trafford.
Rashford caused the Chelsea defence problems but the Manchester United teenager was unable to extend the home side’s lead despite coming close later in the first half.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp heaped praise on Rashford following his outstanding performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Chelsea.
“Marcus Rashford has proved that he is more than capable of filling Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shoes when the Swede calls time at Old Trafford,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“His electric pace gave Chelsea’s back three all sorts of problems and he capped his display with a fine finish. As he has shown time and again, Rashford is a man for the big occasion. He will have a massive part to play between now and the end of the season.”
Rashford has scored five goals and has made one assist in 29 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
