The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a return to west London in the summer transfer window after Everton failed to qualify for Europe last term.
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games to finish as the Premier League’s second-highest goal-scorer behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa revealed earlier this month that he has been told that he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international netted 20 times in 35 appearances to help Chelsea win the Premier League title in their first season under Conte.
Chelsea, of course, sold Lukaku to Everton in a £27m deal in 2014 after Jose Mourinho failed to guarantee the striker regular first-team football.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the likelihood of Lukaku returning to Stamford Bridge, former Liverpool defender Nicol had a warning for Chelsea:
“I’m not sure it’s good business. It will definitely happen. It’s great for Lukaku.
“He will get a big bump in money. He goes to a great team but I’m not sure he will fit in.”
Chelsea lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley last month to miss out on the double.
Lukaku hasn’t scored a goal for Chelsea despite previously playing for the west London side.
