The Blues have been heavily linked with a big-money transfer move to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge this summer three years after he was sold to the Toffees by the west London club.
Chelsea are thought to be keen to bolster their attacking options this summer amid the uncertainty about Diego Costa’s future at the club and as Antonio Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
However, despite all of the speculation, there is yet to be any official confirmation from either club about Lukaku’s future.
And former Everton star Stubbs feels that the sooner the situation can be resolved, the better for all parties concerned.
Stubbs told the Evening Standard: “We are now waiting to see if Romelu stays or goes. The sooner that cloud is removed, whether he is staying or going, it is better for the club so they can move forward.
“Irrespective of Romelu’s transfer Everton have shown they are going to be as serious as they possibly can to get into the top four – that is the aim for Everton at the moment.”
Conte is preparing his team for a return to the Champions League next season after the Blues won the Premier League title in the Italian manager’s first campaign in charge at the club.
Lukaku has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top strikers at Everton and scored 25 top-flight goals last season.
