Alvaro Morata is close to being confirmed as Manchester United’s second summer signing, according to reports in the regional British media.

The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the 24-year-old Spain striker is on the verge of completing a move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

The same story claims that Manchester United are not the only club seeking Morata’s signature this summer but that the forward favours a move to Old Trafford because of his good relationship with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

The 54-year-old gave Morata his Real Madrid debut back in 2010 and coached him during his time in charge at The Bernabeu.

The same report states that Manchester United have ramped up their interest in signing Morata since the end of the season as they seek attacking reinforcements this summer.

The Red Devils have so far only confirmed the signing of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica as Mourinho gears up for his second season in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after they won the Europa League title in Mourinho’s first campaign at the club.
