Arsenal are confident that they will be able to tie Mesut Ozil down to a new contract worth £280,000 a week, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the German playmaker is open to taking the deal, which would make him the highest-earning player at the Premier League club.

The same report states that Ozil had previously demanded a contract worth £350,000 a week but is now ready to settle for £280,000 a week.

The 28-year-old’s future has been a relentless source of speculation this summer as both he and Alexis Sanchez have entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

But it would appear that Arsenal are close to convincing one of their talismanic players to stay at The Emirates, if the latest reports are to be believed.

The same story in the Sun claims that Arsenal are confident that Ozil will sign a new contract with the Gunners before the new season kicks off.

Ozil will be hoping to help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title next season as they look to bounce back from the disappointment of their fifth-placed finish last term.
