The Blues confirmed that they had agreed a deal with the Spanish club to land the 24-year-old striker on Wednesday evening as Antonio Conte closed in on his fourth signing of the summer.
Manchester United were heavily linked with a bid to land Morata throughout the summer but Chelsea made a quick move to sign the Spaniard after the Red Devils ended up signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
Morata is set for his first taste of English football as he prepares to help Chelsea defend their Premier League title next season.
The striker’s move to Chelsea is set to be a big-money deal, and Sky Sports News reporter Swanson has revealed the exact details of the expected fee.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Thursday morning, Swanson said:”Chelsea have agreed a deal with Real Madrid worth up to £70m. The initial fee is £58m.
“He now needs to agree personal terms and pass a medical. That is seen as a formality.”
Speaking to Sky Sports News at Heathrow Airport on Thursday morning, Morata said: “I chose the best club. Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in the world and I’m so happy to work with Antonio.”
Chelsea are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after their impressive title triumph under Conte last term.
The Blues missed out on the FA Cup when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the final back in May.
