The Premier League champions have been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window but the Blues have missed out on some top targets.
Romelu Lukaku was heavily tipped to return to Stamford Bridge but Manchester United managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal and recruit the striker in a £75m deal.
Juventus defenders Leonardo Bonucci was reported to be a target but the arrival of Antonio Rudiger in a £34m transfer from AS Roma could signal that the west London side have conceded defeat in their attempts to sign the Italian centre-half from the Serie A champions.
Reports last week even suggested that Manchester United could usurp Chelsea in the race to sign AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko before the midfielder finally signed for the Blues on Saturday.
Speaking to ESPN FC about Chelsea’s transfer failings this summer, Ligue 1 expert Laurens shed light on Conte’s growing irritation at their lack of success in the transfer market.
“Conte is getting really frustrated. The players he wanted last summer never arrived,” Laurens said.
“This summer is the same. He wanted Bakayoko but it dragged on.
“He wanted Lukaku but he is not getting him. He is getting Ruddier but he wasn’t his first choice.
“He wanted Bonucci or Koulibaly. There is a lot of tension between people in the background at Chelsea and Conte over summer deals.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title in their first season under Conte after finishing seven points clear of Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
