Georginio Wijnaldum is convinced that Liverpool will be one of the main challengers for the Premier League title next season.

The Reds endured a relatively successful campaign last season as Jurgen Klopp led the Merseyside outfit back into the Champions League thanks to their fourth-placed finish.

However, Liverpool looked like they could be set to challenge for the title in the first half of the campaign before a slump in form at the turn of the year dented their hope.

Liverpool have already signed Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke this summer as Jurgen Klopp prepares for his second full season in charge at Anfield.

And Wijnaldum is confident that the Reds have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Wijnaldum is quoted as saying by Metro: “I won’t say we can immediately win the title, but I think we have a squad that can compete for it.

“I’m confident we will not make the same mistakes like last season. You do it as a team and not as an individual.

“I have the trust and confidence. It’s not only me, the whole team must have the confidence.

“A lot of people said that when a team parks the bus, we don’t have a lot of solutions.

“We worked on it in training, when one team was parking the bus, the other team was still finding solutions. If you have confidence, then you will find solutions, even if a team drops really deep.”

Liverpool will also be hoping to mount a challenge in the Champions League next season following their fourth-placed finish last term.
