The Sky Sports News reporter has confirmed that the Reds are interested in landing the 22-year-old Guinea international as Jurgen Klopp prepares for his second full season in charge at Anfield.
Swanson confirmed that the Bundesliga side revealed that they had rejected a new £66m bid from an unnamed club but indicated that the interested party is likely to be Liverpool, given their pursuit of the midfielder.
However, the reporter also confirmed that Leipzig are continuing to make it clear that they do not want to sell Keita this summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning, Swanson said: “RB Leipzig’s owner says that they’ve rejected a £66m offer for midfielder Naby Keita.
“They haven’t named the bidding club but we know Liverpool want him. We were expecting a further offer to go in for him [from Liverpool].
“Leipzig’s position, though, very much remains that he will see out the remainder of his contract.”
Liverpool are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Klopp prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
The Reds secured a return to Europe’s elite club competition by finishing fourth in the top flight last term.
